Q:           Where is the location of the MREB education courses?

A:           MREB courses are held at 3355 The Collegeway, Unit 29, which is located in the plaza on the northeast corner of the Collegeway  and Ridgeway.  The MREB office entrance faces  Ridgeway. Occasionally MREB holds Education Events at different locations – these locations will be advertised on all paperwork pertaining to the special event.

Q:           Why are there different course fees?

A:         We offer a discount price to MREB members, the member fee is $47.25 inc. GST.  The fee for non-MREB members is $63.00 inc. GST.  If a non-REALTOR  registers for courses at MREB, the cost is $78.75 inc. GST.

Q:           How do I know if I’m a member?

A:           A “Member” is defined as a RECO registrant, registered with  a Broker Office which is a member of the Mississauga Real Estate Board.

Q:           I’m not a member of MREB. Can I still take my courses there?

A:           Yes, Mississauga Real Estate Board is a pre-approved Education Provider.

Q:           What is the Mandatory course?

A:           The Mandatory course is the RECO Real Estate Update either Residential or Commercial. The course is worth 6 CEUs and is 6 hours in length. You must register through the Ontario Real Estate Association (OREA) regardless of which location you attend. The dedicated Update number to register is 1.888.333.5535 or fax 416.445.9213. Commencing 2004, MREB classroom will be a location for the Mandatory Update, however registration is still through OREA.

Q:           I’ve faxed/submitted online/mailed my registration form in. Where is my Confirmation?

A:            Confirmations/Receipt of Payment,  are not issued until payment is received and are usually  sent the week prior to the course.  Once the Education Department receives a registration form, and if there is space available in the class, a place is reserved. If you’ve faxed or emailed a registration form and have mailed your cheque, a confirmation will not be issued until the payment is received. Confirmations/Receipt of Payment are sent out electronically.  It is important you provide a fax number that will automatically be answered. If your home office fax doesn’t automatically pick up, please provide another method (perhaps email) or the fax number of your Broker office and advise the front desk to forward it to you. Please allow a few days for your registration to be processed.

Q:           I’ve registered online with MREB. How do I know my registration has been received?

A:           Once you hit the “Submit” button on the online registration form, your information is sent directly to education@mreb.ca.  Please allow a few days for your registration to be processed.

Q:           Who keeps track of all the courses I’ve taken?

A:           You do! It is the responsibility of each individual to keep record of what he/she has attended; there is no central body which archives this information. However, each Education Provider must keep records for 4 years so if you are in doubt as to what you’ve taken, contact the Education Provider who administered the course.

Q:           I’ve lost my certificates and/or transcripts. What now?

A:           The MREB certificates are for your records. Many people retain them for display either in a frame or in their presentation folder. However, when you report your CEUs to RECO, you do not have to submit these certificates. You only have to submit the transcript from the Mandatory course, the RECO Real Estate Update. Therefore, if you’ve misplaced certificates for any other course(s) you may contact the Education Provider for a replacement. MREB charges $10.50 plus GST for replacements.

Q:           How do I report my credits to RECO?

A:           Ninety days before your RECO License expires, you will receive renewal paperwork. In addition to the regular documents, you will now receive a Declaration of Continuing Education to fill out. The top portion of the form is reserved for information on the Mandatory course and you are to attach the transcript you receive from OREA for this course only. Just fill out the rest of the form, indicating the title, date and CEU value of each course attended – you do not need to send in the transcripts for these. Occasionally, RECO will perform random audits and at that point you will be required to produce all certificates and transcripts.

Q:           What if I’m late to a MREB course?

A:           MREB has a zero tolerance for late arrival policy. It is disruptive to the class and the presenter to have people entering once the course has begun. The RECO guidelines specify that in order to obtain the CEUs, the participant must be present for the full duration of the course – they must sign in and sign out – this is in lieu of testing. The sign in sheets are available prior to the beginning of the course and the sign out sheets are provided once the class is completed. MREB highly recommends you plan to arrive a half hour early in order to allow for emergencies, bad traffic or losing your way. We provide refreshments to enjoy while you await the start of the class. It’s a great opportunity to network with your colleagues!

Q:           What if I’m unable to come the morning of the course?

A:           Call us! The MREB Education line is always available for messages. If you have an unforeseen situation the morning of a course (or even the night before), call 905.608.6732 and leave a message. We will  hold a credit on your account for a limited time period, and you may attend another course at MREB.  Those who do not advise MREB that they cannot attend a course and simply don’t show will forfeit their registration fee.

Q:           Do I need to show my Confirmation to get into the class?

A:           No, the Confirmation is for your records only.

Q:           Do I need to bring anything to the course?

A:           Just a pen. The course material will be provided upon arrival.

Q:           Will there be a test?

A:           No. The requirement to receive the CEUs is full attendance of the course.

Q:            How do I know when my license is up for renewal?

A:            The expiry date is clearly displayed on your Real Estate Council of Ontario License which you must carry with you at all times when trading in Real Estate . If the license has been misplaced, call RECO at 416.207.4800 or visit their website at www.reco.on.ca and click on "Search for Salesperson or Broker". The RECO License status and expiry date will be displayed.

Q:           When am I supposed to have my credits completed, and how many do I need?

A:           For questions of this nature, please contact the Education Coordinator, at 905.608.6732, fax 905.608.9988 or email education@mreb.ca for personal assistance.
